About Timber Bear

Hello and welcome!

I'm Tyler Hunter

Growing up in a small town in central PA, I've always been surrounded by hardworking, very skilled people that always knew how to fix and build just about anything. For as long as I can remember, my dad was one of those people and is still one of the most handy people I know. I have always admired his ability to problem solve and make incredible, functional things out of nothing. I love learning new skills and creating things that mean something.

For the past decade, I've worked in the fitness and rehab field, where I currently own two different businesses. I have a great passion for helping people rediscover their former health and fitness, while making things fun and encouraging at the same time. But I also have a deep passion for the outdoors and working with my hands. Being dad's assistant in the garage as a kid, taking shop class in high school, and all my time outside camping and hunting gave me such a strong respect for trees, woodworking, and making useful things. My purpose with starting Timber Bear Woodworks was to establish an efficient workshop space for creating, building, and re-purposing all things wood and lumber related and hopefully impact our local communities by promoting sustainability, utilizing local resources, and highlighting other small businesses.

I have 3, soon-to-be 4, amazing children (Audrey, Baylor, Bear) with my incredible wife (Arin). I was born and raised here in the small, lovable town of Bellwood, PA. I'm an avid runner and love all things fitness, I'm a huge Pittsburgh sports fan (Steelers, Pirates, Pens), and I love to camp, hunt, work in the garage, and spend quality time with family. My faith in Christ is not something I'm shy about and being a strong Christian husband, father, and leader is something I very much strive to be.

I actually have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Kinesiology and I've worked in the fitness/wellness world for the last decade. In 2016, I created a private fitness facility in Altoona, PA called Revival Fitness & Rehab, which I still own and operate today. Within our facility there, we offer Personal Training, Fascial Stretch Therapy, and a group fitness class. We also have partnered with a Physical Therapist that works out of our facility as well. And then I co-own a second business in State College, PA called Revived Stretch & Recovery Lounge, where we provide Fascial Stretch Therapy to Centre County, including some Penn State football players. Providing personalized, private fitness opportunities within this amazing community has been a passion of mine for a long time and I genuinely believe that God led me into that field to help all kinds of people here.

I'm not a formally-trained carpenter or tradesman. I took shop class in high school, spent countless hours helping my engineer and mastermind father with projects in both the past and present, even if it was just holding the flashlight, and I've put a lot of time into working on various solo projects, learning from YouTube videos and simply trying things, sometimes getting lucky but mostly learning by messing it up 12 times. We have a saying in our house: "We do it nice 'cause we do it twice."

As time goes on, I seem to further embrace my introverted personality and I find myself loving opportunities to work with my hands, especially with wood projects. Since quarantine happened back in 2020, I have been absolutely obsessed with all things lumber and woodworking: kiln drying wood, building furniture, portable saw millingspecialty lumber and huge slabs, machines and equipment, systems and science, people and different skill sets, interests and abilities, tree species and biology. These concepts have become so fascinating to me and the more I dive in, the more I love it. And as time has gone on, I've been feeling like I'm being pulled in a new direction, which obviously led me to launch Timber Bear in the summer of 2023. I have no idea where God is going to take this business but I definitely can't wait to find out.

I'm so honored, thankful, and ecstatic to be on this journey. Thank you for being willing to learn a little about my life and I genuinely hope to connect with you soon.

About Timber Bear

The purpose of Timber Bear Woodworks is to create a unique and impactful local business here in central Pennsylvania that provides accessible, modernized woodworking services and premium hardwoods for the weekend DIY to the professional carpenter and tradesman.

We are so blessed to have found an awesome warehouse right in Bellwood, PA, and are giving it new life. While the 6,000 square foot space needs a lot of TLC, it fits all of our needs and allows for us to grow. We're updating and and repurposing as we go, designing it to be an efficiently modern concept. Regardless, we have a lot of open space to work on projects, store our big machines, and stack all the lumber you could dream of.

Service wise, we have an exciting and collaborative list of offerings coming your way. We're starting everything off by offering lumber and slab drying with our iDry Vacuum Kiln and also selling specialty kiln-dried hardwoods, such as dimensional lumber and premium slabs. Coming in the near future, we will be building a variety of high-end custom furniture and varying projects, we will offer custom saw-milling with a Woodland Mills sawmill, shop surfaces such as slab flattening, and so much more! We want to help you create something special and meaningful with your projects; to give a retired tree, a piece of wood, or a piece of furniture a living story and impact our communities.
